First Blood, the movie was largely an indictment of the treatment received by Vietnam veterans. Morrell's book dives deeper into both protagonists and provides a fast paced allegory of escalating violence unchecked. ( )One of the most compulsive books I've ever read. From a simple premise of two macho blokes facing off, it builds masterfully. The movie did not get anywhere near its dark heart. Here Rambo is a serial killer who betrays his own code of survival at all costs. Would've been five stars if not for a slightly over the top final bit. A seriously good combat veteran is drifting, no longer in the military. He wanders in to a town, mostly minding his own business. The local law enforcement decide they don't like the look of him and his alpha maleness in their 'nice' little place. They harrass him. Very, very bad mistake. In the end, to salvage the situation, Rambo's old relationships must be brought to the surface. http://notfreesf.blogspot.com/2007/02... If you watched the movie "Rambo" you owe it to yourself to read the book. There is a different insight given. no reviews | add a review
