Harrʻs Civil Action Nearly done with Judgment at Nuremberg by Robert Conot It's right up there with A Civil Action for non-fiction legal thriller. All of the Nazis on trial remind me of Dick Tracy villains. What a crazy bunch of thugs. The Lost Painting: the Quest for a Caravaggio Masterpiece by Jonathan Harr I also really enjoyed the Harr book - it was a very interesting story. I rushed to read his other book A Civil Action but did not enjoy that one half as much. Probably because of the content rather than the writing.
... reliability of a non-fiction narrator depends on how he or she can keep their emotions and opinions in check. Probably why A Civil Action is more reliable than whatever Glenn Beck is having ghost-written at the moment.

The New New Journalism by Rob ... #66 I haven't read The Lost Painting, but like you I found A Civil Action a compelling read--in fact, a very suspenseful page-turner. No, I haven't read A Civil Action (or even heard of it, until I read the Caravaggio book). I have found that people who love one book really dislike the other . . . it's as if they were written by two different authors. I'm a total art history, research and archive geek, so the Lost Painting ... Just curious if you've read Harr's A Civil Action. I found it so interesting and so well done, Harr is kind of hardcore in the immersion school of journalism. But, when I read The Lost Painting my reaction was - he put all that work into that? Oh well, glad you enjoyed. I still look forward to ... That's funny because I saw several negative reviews for the Lost Painting from readers who loved A Civil Action. They must be really different books.
Anyway, yes, going to Italy for two weeks in July. My husband's family lives in Lucca, which is a small walled city between Pisa and Florence. ... ... - I also enjoyed The Lost Painting. It was an art book wrapped in a mystery plot. It took me on to reading his other book A Civil Action which I enjoyed less, perhaps because I have no real interest in the Law. I found that one quite boring.

A Civil Action by Jonathan Harr Lilith, have you read A Civil Action? It's wonderfully written creative non-fiction, up there with In Cold Blood.
