2084 A History of Rhodesia, by Robert Blake (read 13 Jun 1987) This is an excellent work, and tells well the account of this most interesting country. Ian Smith issued his Unilateral Declaration of Independence on 11 Nov 1965. The rapid deterioration in Smith's position is covered in the last chapter , called "Epilogue 1965-1977," and the fall of the white government is imminent. This book has been a great read, though sad, since the contributions of whites to Africa deserve more than extinction of white influence there--and the rule of not competent black governments. But whites themselves have the blame for this--though one cannot be surprised that blacks want self-rule even though it is so often incompetent rule. ( )
