About meI'm the author of "Five Things I Can't Live Without" (July, 2007) and "Love and Other Natural Disasters" (January, 2009.) I split my time between writing novels and practicing therapy in the San Francisco bay area. Over on my website (www.hollyshumas.com), under "Musings", you can find my thoughts on love, relationships, books and publishing,(psycho)analysis of celebrity gossip, and other randomness. Glad to be here!

About my library"Love and Other Natural Disasters" is the story of a woman who's eight months pregnant when she discovers her husband has been having an emotional affair for the past year. It's perfect for book clubs, and I'd love to come to yours (in person in the SF area, or by call-in.) My first novel, "Five Things I Can't Live Without," was a lighthearted look at the neurotic art of self-sabotage. I'm working on my third novel now (a couple of third novels, actually), and we'll see which one pans out.

This is so funny but saw your name on charlotte's librarything page. I just saw Heartburn and was inspired to get this 1983 book out of the library. It is a novelization of Nora Ephron's true experience of finding out that her husband,Carl Bernstein, was having an affair with a mutual friend. She made this discovery while 7 months pregnant!!!
I also checked my comments a little late, but I LOVED the two books I have read by you (Five Things and Love and other natural disasters). I look forward to reading any other books you have written or will write.

Thanks for the great books

Hi - thanks for letting me know about the author chat. I'm about 1/3 of the way through your book right now (and really enjoying it). I'll stop by the chat after I'm finished. I don't want to go now for fear of spoilers. Thanks!!

Discover a new answer; envision a new image; conceive a new system.
Dream a new dream; chart a new course; build a new life.
Open a new door; explore a new possibility; capture a new vision.
Start a new chapter; seek a new challenge; express a new confidence.
Write a new plan; turn a new page; follow a new direction.
