I'm sorry for my late reply on your request, but I just entered the page to go down my books, looking at nothing more, because I was busy. Anyway I am Spanish and I need much time to read a book in English. But I will read the chapters that provide on your page, and give you my opinion. Thanks for your offer.

hi! I am one of those who won the Early Reviewers'/ Member Giveaways program for your Dirty Little Angels book. As far as I could vaguely remember, the book mentioned was an e-book. I have yet to receive the ebook via email, or links/references as to how to obtain the e-book. I see others have written to you about it, would you mind if I ask too as to how I can obtain the e-book for a review?
Sorry to bother

You asked me because I liked Kirino Natsuo's "Out", but I didn't like it because it is a gritty thriller. I liked it because it was a book by a Japanese woman about Japanese women. I actually read it initially because it was required reading for my course on gender in Japan. The murders and such were hardly more than a facade for me, and most definitely not what the books was about.
And since your book doesn't seem to be about either women or Japan, I think I wouldn't be much help, since I'm not really a fan of thrillers and would probably not like it at all.

Thank you for the opportunity to review your book. Though I rated Glass Castles 4 out of 5 stars, I wouldn't say that I enjoyed it, in fact if it hadn't been our library's One Read, I would Not have read it, too many cringe moments (eg. you're Not really going to trust your parents with your money are you - NO). So unfortunately, I do Not wish to read more about dysfunctional families. Good luck with your book!
ps - just saw your note this evening.

Sorry for the late reply to your message about Dirty Little Angels. I appreciate the inquiry, just haven't been logging on lately.
I wouldn't be a good reviewer, I'm afraid. Though I liked Out by Kirino overall, it was the portraits of the four women characters and their roles in Japanese culture I enjoyed. Well, OK - I also liked the jerk husband getting strangled and the women cutting up the body and disposing of it. But the rape/torture scenes - they were hard to get through.
I didn't get past the first couple of paragraphs of the Dirty Little Angels excerpt. I do think they're well written, but you ain't kidding - this does promise to be dark stuff.
So... my limited feedback is you've done a great job signaling the reader about what's to come. Readers like me will know right off they're not your target audience.
But I think there is a target audience out there, and wish you best of luck with the book.

Not "feel good", but very real. I liked that it took me to parts of society that are parallel to my own I continue to be amazed at the parallel universes co-existing with my own). I just returned from Singapore where my son Christopher was married on August 15, the reason for my delayed response. After a few days of jet lag semi-consciousness, I think I am now once again ready to read, especially after reading your first chapter. Please send me a copy at dsbjohn@yahoo.com. I am looking forward to finding out what happens to the "Dirty Angels" family--it sounds as dysfunctional as my own.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't mind reviewing your book, but I have problems reading large blocks of text on the computer. Printed pages tend to have less of a contrast between the text and the paper, whereas a computer screen is stark black and white--and that's not so good on my eyes (wow, I sound old).
Good luck, anyway! :)

I appreciate the offer to read your new novella and post a review. Unfortunately, I just don't think I could do that much reading on the computer. I already stare at a computer all day at work, so when I get home, I have to have that book in my hands. However, I am contemplating getting a digital reader around Christmas. If I do, I would be opened to review some of your stories if the offer is still on the table at that time. Whether it is this one or any of your future ones.

Just wanted you to know I finished your book and my review is posted here: http://www.librarything.com/work/7767575... , as well as on Amazon and BN.
I tore through it in one afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it! Maybe this is because I'm a therapist, but I was fascinated with how Hailey kept getting triangulated into others' relationships: mom and dad, Cyrus and Moses, Meridian and Chase. Great stuff. Wishing you much success with this novel, and looking forward to reading more of your work in the future!

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not sure I'm your best choice. I'm not really set up for e-books, so I'd have to wait for a hard copy. Also, based on the reviews I've read so far, it sounds like it's going to end badly which I'm not too excited about. I'm not saying that I only like books with the super-mega-happy ending, but there does have to be some hope in there somewhere. So, if the book ends with at least a smidgen of hope and you could send me a hard copy at some point, I would definitely read it. Probably not exactly the answer you were looking for, but it's the best I can do!
Best of luck,
Jean

You know, I saw your email as soon as you sent it. Unfortunately, I've been working on a couple of projects and reading a couple of REALLY bad books, and neglected getting back to you. I'd like to remedy that now. I would love to give your book a go, and format doesn't really bother me (much), although I do prefer paper. Drop me a line anytime.

I've ordered a copy from Amazon.com this morning. It looks like an interesting book, and you seem to be receiving rave reviews for it. I read the summary of your novel, and it looks very interesting. I need to be honest, however, and say that I can't do an e-book. Call me old-fashioned, but I can't read anything of significant length in electronic form. I understand the appeal of e-books, especially for authors and publishers trying to get the word out inexpensively, but unfortunately it won't work for me.
If you do happen to get more physical copies of the book, I'd be glad to read it and provide a review. In the meantime, good luck to you!

I'd love to read and review your book, but I'm not a big fan of reading e-books, it's just too hard for me to concentrate on the screen for such a long time, you know? It looks like it will be intriguing, though. Let me know if you get any more copies and you still need some reviews, because I wouldn't mind reading it the old fashioned way!

I would be delighted to read your book. However, I am like sgresnic, I don't believe that I could, or would read it as an ebook. The book looks very interesting to me and will endeavor to purchase it. Even though I normally don't buy paperback books, even if they are paperback original first editions. I read the reviews and the sample, and it doesn't appear that I could help more than Donald Ray Pollock. I loved his book Knockemstiff. Bought 3 copies and rated it 4 stars on Librarything.com. Good luck with the book.

I got your comment. I checked out your sight and your book definitely sounds like something I would be interested in reading. However, right now Im in Grad school and don't have a lot of free time for personal reading on top of the reading I do for the chit lit book club I run. I don't want to commit to doing a review right now because I honestly have no idea how long it will take me. Im also not a fan of ebooks, staring at my computer screen longer than I already do doesn't sound to appealing, haha. But thank you for the opportunity and when things slow down I will definitely read your book and write a review.
Best of Wishes!

I haven't forgotten about you and your book. I have it on my Kindle and try to read some of it between the work time I have, which gets larger and larger. My daughter is getting married later this month, one of her best friends/bridesmaids was murdered on April 1 in Boulder (by the ex-husband, who then of course killed himself, leaving two little boys without parents), so we've had a shocking up and down last few months.
Just wanted you to know I am still with you, at least in thought. I will get the book finished, and want to try to do larger chunks at a time, because small bits don't work for my memory of things.
Thanks.
Woodswoman
P.S. For all those people who can't read an e-book, I agree about the computer reading, but I have a Kindle and find it very convenient and easy to use. My long-time partner, an English Professor for 35 years, hated the thought of reading on a Kindle, but he bought one for me, and after reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle on my device (a 566 page book), he ordered a Kindle for himself immediately. We both still love paper books, but definitely find a great place in our reading lives for our Kindles. So don't knock it until you try it. We have nearly 5000 books in our library, but we can't cart them around with us when we travel. Kindle can!

Thanks for offering your book for review. I'd love to help out however I can. I read the summary and glanced at the library you have cataloged here. Your book looks intriguing. The blurb reminds me of Flannery O'Conner's Wise Blood (which I loved) more than The Virgin Suicides. In all honesty, I've never been a fan of the e-book format and would much prefer a physical copy, but I understand if you're low on supplies. I've just never been able to enjoy a novel viewed on a computer screen as much as an actual copy I can take wherever I wish. If you'd still like me to look at it, I'll send you my email in a private comment. Let me know...

I've just read several other LT reviews of your book and it definitely sounds like something I would enjoy reading. However, at this time, I don't think I could do an e-book justice. In the last year or so I've developed some eye problems that make sustained computer reading really difficult (an "unusually large floater" (serious emphasis on the word unusually from the opthamologist) and the beginning of a cataract -- both in my right eye!).
The result of this is too weird to even explain and I'm not sure that I could get through an entire e-novel with either my neck or my sanity in tact -- especially my neck!
So sorry and I do seriously appreciate your offer. I'm putting it on my Amazon wish list so the next time I have a birthday or something, ya just never know...

Thanks for getting back to me. I did not realize that this was an E-Book. I really don't read e-books because I read "on the go" and the e-book format is not convenient for that. Do you have physical copies of the book? I really would like to read it. I guess I need to pay closer attention when requesting books going forward. Sorry for the confusion.

Congratulations on a great book. I really enjoyed it. You are obviously a good story teller. The pacing of the story is perfect and holds the readers interest right to the end. I think that is why almost everyone who reviewed the book liked it. Who can resist a good story regardless of time or place? I am a little curious as to how you achieved that. Did it flow naturally or did you carefully polish and edit until every sentence was just right and the action was paced perfectly?
I have a vision of the first draft being quite a bit longer and then fine tuned.
I think you have a great career ahead of you.

Thanks for the note about your book. This is actually the second time you've dropped me a line about the book but I didn't respond the first time. I enjoy reading new books and would be interested in yours. But I am just not an e-book reader. I don't ever request such ER or ARC books because I don't enjoy reading from that type of a platform. I can understand the reluctance to send out a bunch of your copies, especially if you have a limited number for these purposes. If you want to send me a hard copy version, I'd happily read and review it. If not, no hard feelings. Good luck!

Thanks for your message. The original offer did not indicate that the book would be in e format and the note sent from LT says that I will receive your book in the mail. I apologise, but I will be unable to read your book in this format due to a disability. I never request e format books on Early Reviewers or Members Giveaway for this reason. Would it be possible to send me your book via the mail and I will be more than happy to read it and review it for you? If that's OK, let me know and I will let you have my mailing address. I would love to read your book and review it on my blog but I don't do ebooks. Sorry. I spend too much time on the computer as it is that when I read, I want the real thing in my hand AND it saves the eyestrain! The other thing is I am over committed to publishers and individual authors for reviews until the end of May so I wouldn't want to say yes and then have you wait. Maybe sometime when you have a copy of one of your books, and I have more time, we could work it out. Thanks for asking!

Sorry not to get back with you sooner. I would really enjoy reading your work!
Also - I'm a little surprised about the response you've had from some people. Okay, yes, I more often than not (okay, almost always) read my books in print, but as a librarian I'm a little dismayed by some of the responses...as though an e-book isn't an "actual book."
Anywho...you can contact me @ merlayton@gmail.com or through the Thing.

I didn't realize that you were giving away e-books. I'm not even remotely interested in spending hours reading a book on my computer. Frankly, I'm stunned that you are even allowed to give out e-books. LibraryThing is about actual books - ones that you hold in your hand.

Your book definitely sounds up my alley. I've reviewed the debut collection from Hannah Holborn and the debut novel form Ara 13 here in LT, and I do like the topic you've written on. However, since I'm old school and not too familiar with this ebook idea, can you enlighten me? If it means sitting in front of a computer monitor in order to read your book, I'm afraid I'd have to pass. But if a version that I could hold in my hands and take w/me is available, I'd be happy to read and review.

Thanks for your message. I am reluctant to commit to reading your book, even though it does sound intriguing. I am terribly bad at finishing books on a punctual schedule. Plus, I have this stack next to my bed that I am trying to get through in the next month or so before I start any more. If you send me the link though I will attempt to start it as soon as I can.
I was interested to find that you are from New Orleans. I grew up in Mobile, AL the first 13 years of my life and occasionally revisit every few years or so. I consider the south almost like a different country. This impression is strengthened every time I go back and visit. It must be an adventure being a writer in New Orleans. Anyway, good luck with the book.

Thanks for making me aware of your book. I just finished it a few moments ago, and what a great read it was. I recall that you told me about it because of my long list of Larry Brown books on this service -- while I see why some might compare your work to his, I must also say that I found your voice very original and of course powerful. I think I am most struck by the way your characters face problems and violence so...matter of factly, perhaps fatalistically is a better way of putting it. That sort of minimalism made my skin crawl in a great way. I look forward to a long long long list of titles from you!

I'd be happy to read and review Dirty Little Angels. I share some other commenters' apprehensions about reading an entire e-book -- I still haven't taken the kindle plunge -- but DLA sounds like the very book to inspire a first attempt. I have never lived in New Orleans but my son and his family live there and I always enjoy my regular visits. (A propos of nothing, I have eaten a muffaletta at Napoleon House at least once a year every year since 1967.) I also buy books regularly at Faulkner House Books on Pirate's Alley -- if I like yours, I'll probably make a point to buy it there :-)

If you look more closely at my library you see that I read just about anything by, for and about New Orleans.
I'm in New York this weekend and in a book buying mood. I'll look for your book as I'd much prefer to read the analog version. I haven't invested in an e-book reader YET so I'll be forced to read it on my laptop. Yuck!

I wish you the very best with your book. I’m sure it’s very good.

I would love to take a look at your book -- I found it on Amazon and will buy a copy. Thanks for the offer of the ebook, but I'm old fashioned that way -- I still prefer the good old fashioned paper between my fingers.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't think I could stand to read an e-book - however pleasing the content.
best of luck with the promotion

I would be happy to read your book. I'm always looking for new and wonderful books to read, and I really enjoy helping out the authors I enjoy in anyway that I can. Send the book to my email - lesleydawn@gmail.com - and I will read it promptly. I'd be more than happy to leave a review here on Librarything, on Amazon, and anywhere else that you think would be beneficial. Just let me know.
Also, if I think it is really good (which it sounds like it will be) I'll tell everyone I know personally about it. I can't promise they'll buy it, but my friends all know I'm the person to ask if they need a good book to read.
Thanks again. I can't wait to read it.

Thanks very much for your note.
"Dirty Little Angels" sounds intriguing. I would love to read it.
My one dilemma is that the next several months are bears for me. I'm a newspaper reporter & also own a small regional publishing company. Both arenas are especially hectic from March through July. I probably won't be tackling any new recreational reading until after that point (I haven't even had time to post reviews of stuff I recently finished, including "Choke," "Stolen Innocence," and "Still Alice."
If you're no particular rush, I would love to read the book.
Take care,
Brian

A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.
But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.
The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Thanks so much for sending me word of your new book. I just read your site and the info on Amazon and pre-ordered. I am also going to request to friend you so that I know when you release new works. Again, thanks for contacting me! It's wonderful to hear directly from authors -- one of my favorite parts of this community.

Sounds very interesting - New Orleans is such a great setting (my daughter was in grad school there the last four years) and the faith/skepticism dynamic outlined in the plot summary seems like fertile narrative ground to plow.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get to it right away. I don't know what your time frame is, but if you don't need a response before, say the first week in September, I'd love to read it.

I am certainly willing to read your manuscript, the storyline sounds interesting. Only 'problem' is that I will be going on holiday next week and only return end of August. I don't know what time schedule you have in mind?
